Member states have clearly expressed their resolve to back implementation of the SDGs with robust, voluntary, effective, participatory, transparent, integrated reviews of progress, starting at the national level, which underpins a framework that also encompasses global and regional reviews. The UN Secretary-General’s report on follow-up recognized country ownership and the critical importance of country-led reviews. The report also emphasised that “the United Nations system, including through its Regional Commissions and country teams, stands ready to provide coherent support to the conduct of national reviews, including for strengthening the capacity of national statistical offices, data systems, and evaluation bodies.
